In a tight game our girls finally got over the line to win the Premier title.
Mastergeeha who were last years league champions were the stronger team in the first half and created a number of chances which our goalkeeper Cara Griffin confidently dealt with.
Celtic’s captain Aimee Shine together with her centre half partner Evelyn Grimes defended valiantly as they played into a strong wind conceding a number of corners which fortunately came to nothing.
Despite the hard work of Brid O’Connor and Mia Cox down the wings Celtic struggled to hold onto possession in the middle third.
The second half however belonged to Celtic as Leah Mannix, Niamh O’Leary, Elisa Mosca and Seodhna O’Sullivan drove their team on from the middle and with the help of a strong wind the girls started to string passes together.
Killarney’s first goal came from an Aimee Shine clearance when she put the ball into Olga Kumor’s path which she dispatched to the net with her usual calm and poise.
Celtics defence was well on top at this stage with Jaylinn O’Leary, Nell Casey and Clodagh O’Connor attacking the ball with courage and determination.
As Mastergeeha pushed up for an equaliser more space was created for Celtic going forward with Mia Cox, Caoimhe Darmody and Leah Mannix all missing chances.
Kumor struck again at about the 20 min mark after Mannix had her shot saved.
Well done girls.
