Our Club

Killarney Celtic was founded in 1976 by two Killarney locals, Mike Daly and Billy Healy (now living in Seattle, USA). The reason for starting the club was simply to give interested players a chance to play soccer on a regular basis. Our facilities are located just north of the Killarney by-pas in Ballydribbeen.

The first competitive game was on 24th October 1976. That year the team went through the league unbeaten and gained promotion to Division 2. In division 2 they were again unbeaten and were promoted to Kerry’s top flight where they have remained ever since apart from a brief foray into the Munster Senior League in 1988. Over the years the club established an under-age section which was the largest in Kerry and now has over 600 players, starting off at Soccer tots right through to Senior Level.

Killarney Celtic has always included girl’s programs and have started most county programs in this area. Our girl’s teams range from Soccer Tots right up to 17 years old. We cater for boys from 7-10 and the focus on this program is fun with a little competition in the form of blitzes.

Five years ago, we started the very popular program for boys and girls ages 4-6 known as Soccertots. This gives players a leg up in team sports and encourages fun and friendships. Three years ago, we started a program …. for 5th year students. We are training students to help train younger people. This is our effort at getting children (who are at a vulnerable age) working and helping young people. Again, this has been very successful.

Killarney Celtic has operated on the ‘Sports for All’ concept. We want children to enjoy themselves, meet others and learn a bit about soccer. Our catchment has grown, and we get people from Listry, Faha, Glenflesk, Fossa, Spa and Rathmore. We welcome all (30-50 mile) radius… Tralee included.
